About MSTG - Про 270 ВІМБД
MSTG Mission
Primary Role
Plan, coordinate, and conduct computer-assisted C2 Battle Simulation Exercises to train Battalion and Brigade Commanders and Staffs of the Ukraine Land Forces Command in current NATO doctrine in a realistic simulated wartime environment. These units are prepared for real-life deployments in Kosovo with NATO and US forces.
Secondary Role
Train Battalion and Brigade Commanders and Staffs using NATO standards in the tactics, techniques and procedures of operating in a Tactical Operations Center (TOC) on the modern day battlefield.
Prior to each SIMEX, Cubic works with the MSTG to design, plan, and conduct Battle Staff Training (BST) modules with the primary training audience. These modules include:
- Full Spectrum Operations
- Operational Planning Process (OPP)
- COE/IPB
- NATO CIS/Radio Procedures
- NATO Military Symbols, Terms & Graphics
- Staff Procedures, Orders, & Plans
- TOC Operations
- AAR Process / OC Duties
- Map Reading
- Air Assault Operations
- Airborne Operations
BST is a sophisticated, integrated program that takes several, full days of instruction. The end state is a battalion or brigade staff that is capable of functioning successfully as a battle staff in a JCATS SIMEX.
Achievements
- Planned, conducted, and executed 13 SIMEXs from May 2008 to October 2010.
- Training included units across the full spectrum of operations to include Marines, engineers, and airborne forces.
- Supported the USAREUR-directed multinational exercise Rapid Trident 2008, 2010.
- Supported the multinational engineer exercise Blonde Avalanche 2010.
- Currently working to support the Swedish-directed multinational, distributed Viking 2011 SIMEX.
- Set up and installed JCATS architecture at the Lviv Land Forces Academy, and subsequently conducted their first ever SIMEX in April of 2010.
Value of the MSTG
- Low equipment & personnel costs – Units don’t need to maintain supplies of computers, a permanent network infrastructure, or the human resources to man it all.
- Low travel costs – Units provide the floor space and we travel there. No worries for commanders about finding lodging, fuel, and meals.
- Ability to conduct a SIMEX anywhere – if there is a roof over our heads, we can conduct a JCATS SIMEX there! We bring our own computers, our own network infrastructure, and even our own electricity if need be.
- Simplicity & Speed – Thanks to continued support from the U.S. government, we have been provided two vans that contain all the equipment needed for a battalion-level SIMEX. Upon arrival on site, the setup of the entire network & computers, loading, & final testing takes less than a day.
Way Ahead for the MSTG
- As we continue to reach our target strength of 15 officers, split the team as planned and conduct simultaneous exercises.
- Assume more responsibilities in brigade level exercises.
- Conduct SIMEXs with other branches of service (Navy, Air Force, Marines)
- Increase the complexity of our SIMEXs.
